Prairie Trail plans were unveiled in August 2006 and the first groundbreaking was held only nine months later at the new Ankeny Police Station. It was a fast start with more new businesses announced the same year. But when the economic slow-down began in 2008, real estate development across the US was hit hard. DRA Properties chose to move forward aggressively, erecting new commercial buildings and laying infrastructure, ready to meet the needs of businesses when the economy improved. It proved to be a solid strategy with the last few years seeing robust growth.
Businesses thrive in this mixed-use, walkable development with a strong community feel and a respect of the environment. The 525,000-square-foot entertainment and retail hub mimics the traditional town squares found in so many neighboring communities and was planned with Prairie Trail residents and regional shoppers in mind.
