Ankeny, Iowa. . . Soon residents and regional visitors to Ankeny’s Prairie Trail will have unprecedented shopping and entertainment options that currently require up to an hour-long excursion. Families will be able to enjoy recreation like the Aquatic Center currently under construction followed by a casual dining experience, or pick up dinner-to-go, gifts and a coffee on their way home from work or college classes.
DRA Properties and TerreMark Partners Inc. are forging forward with plans for The District at Prairie Trail, the mixed-use component of the 1,000 acre Prairie Trail development that will feature shopping, dining and entertainment. Total retail planned is approximately 525,000 square feet, to be constructed and opened in phases.
TerreMark Partners will begin marketing the project at the International Council of Shopping Centers RECon convention May 23-26 in Las Vegas. TerreMark’s analysis of the regional market revealed an underserved niche in food and beverage, entertainment and some retail, and those will be the key categories targeted to bring The District to life.
The project embraces the community-inspired vision of the Prairie Trail master plan, which currently includes residential neighborhoods, hiking trails, offices and schools as well as plans for a new City Hall and library. This diverse combination of uses is highly unusual among similar projects and enhances communal interaction.
