Ankeny city officials will take bids on the first phase of a two-part project for two major streets in the Prairie Trail Development.
The overall plan will extend Southwest Cherry Street from its current end at Southwest Ordnance Road to Southwest Magazine Road. It will also improve Magazine from its intersection with Cherry east to South Ankeny Boulevard. These sections run on the west and south sides, respectively, of the high school site in Prairie Trail.
The first phase, estimated to cost $1.38 million, entails grading and underground utilities work. Bids will be opened June 30, and a public hearing is set for 5:30 p.m. July 6 at City Hall, 410 W. First St. Construction could begin in mid-July if plans are approved. Most of the work could be completed this year, with the rest finished in early 2010.
In the second phase of the project, which would be done in 2010, both street sections would be paved and the intersections of Magazine Road-Ankeny Boulevard and Cherry Street-Ordnance Road would be improved.
