Plans for a road that would serve a high school and middle school complex in Ankeny’s Prairie Trail development are moving forward.

City officials are seeking bids from construction firms on a $3.2 million project to improve Southwest Magazine Road from Cherry Street west to State Street. Money would come from the Prairie Trail civic trust fund.

Plans call for a four-lane road, with utility work along the route, streetlights, a trail and more. A public hearing on the project is set for Sept. 20, and a contract could be awarded that evening. Underground utilities would be installed this fall, with paving work finished next summer. The new Ankeny High School and also Southview Middle School will open in August 2011.

Work on the section of Magazine Road that runs from Cherry Street east to Ankeny Boulevard is under way.
