The Ankeny school board unanimously agreed Monday to purchase a total of 41 acres from DRA Properties for roughly $2.6 million for an elementary school and a middle school for eighth- and ninth-graders, both in the Prairie Trail development.
The 16-acre elementary school property is west of Des Moines Area Community College on the northwest corner of what will be Southwest College Street and Prairie Trail Parkway.
The 25 acres earmarked for the middle school are just west of where the new high school will be built in Prairie Trail, near Ankeny Boulevard and north of DMACC.
No opening date for either school is known. The land for the schools will be paid for with a combination of already budgeted local-option sales tax money still available to the district and other sources. All of the installation costs for the utilities and new roads that will service each school will be paid for by DRA.
